The History of Mobile App Stores

As with any modern innovation, you can track the steps that brought us to where we are now.

Shoutem, an awesome start-up that helps individuals and businesses build mobile apps without any coding knowledge, took the time to make an incredible infographic  that outlines the history & dynamic growth of mobile app stores.

It’s fascinating to see & interpret how competition triggers certain actions. For example, literally the day after RIM announced they will be creating a mobile app marketplace, Android launched their marketplace.

In the matter of 8 months from April 2009 to December 2009, the iOS App Store went from 1 billion to 3 billion downloads.
