AR is not just for pirates. That was a joke. Hopefully you got it. Currently there are about 36,000 apps in the Google Play store with augmented reality functionality while Apple’s App Store has about 40,000. While the success Pokemon GO has seen has not been replicated for many apps, nevermind AR apps, it has had an effect on the market. The chart below shows new releases of games in the iOS App Store with augmented reality functionality built in. Notice there is a sharp increase after the success of Pokemon GO is realized and another around the holiday season.
