If you’ve been following along on the Apptopia blog, you probably noticed we are hot on the trail of retention and today is no different. While retention is important to all app developers, retention of health & fitness apps should be important to the users downloading them. They obviously want to eat better and/or get into a better and more healthy physical condition. The health & fitness apps with the best retention are likely the most effective at giving the user what they are seeking from downloading the app in the first place. We analyzed six popular fitness apps for 30th day retention in the US in Apple’s App Store as well as in Google Play. You will see in the charts below that we also compared them to the category average for the same time period of January through April. Google Play average (5%) Health & Fitness 30th day app retention is higher than the App Store’s (4.3%). Through April 2017, Google Play has 110k Health & Fitness apps compared to the App Store’s 60k.
